(BANT) – Officials say they will have to dump hundreds of thousands of gallons of water after vandals breached a chain link fence and two locks at a public water tank in Novato last Friday.

Marin County Sheriff’s officials say the intruder alarm attached to the North Marin Water District tank in a remote area of northwest Novato went off a little before to 6 p.m.

Water district officials say there is no evidence of contamination, but 290,000 gallons of water must be drained from the tank and replaced to ensure public safety.
