A 62-year-old transient was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of setting an umbrella on fire outside a Starbucks in San Leandro, according to police.

Officers responded to the coffee shop at 13808 E. 14th St. around
4:45 a.m.

The umbrella was still burning when officers arrived, but firefighters extinguished the flames before they could spread to the Starbucks.

A witness identified Michael Norton, who was standing nearby, as the suspect. He allegedly started the fire on purpose, police said.

Norton was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of arson.
