SFPD Officer Injured Trying To Break Up Multiple Fights At Westfield Mall
(BANT) – Officials say a police officer was injured while trying to break up a melee last night at an upscale shopping mall in San Francisco.
Police responded around 6:45 p.m. to reports of numerous fights at the Westfield San Francisco Centre at 865 Market St. The first officers to arrive called for backup after they saw that a number of fights were happening as bystanders were watching.
Police say officers tried to detain several people, some of whom resisted. One officer who attempted to stop the fighting was attacked and assaulted.
To help control the situation the mall was closed. Police say a number of people were detained. Only one officer was injured.
