(BANT) – A San Francisco supervisor has announced a program designed to curb dog droppings in the city.

The Pet Owner Outreach Program with the intentional acronym of POOP was announced late last week by Supervisor Katy Tang to educate people who adopt dogs from shelters about pet waste laws.

People who adopt a dog from San Francisco Animal Care and Control or the SF Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will get a free set of dog waste bags and a bag dispenser.

“I am sure that many of us have stepped into dog waste accidentally and found ourselves frustrated by the poopetrators,” Tang said in a statement. “Let’s all do our ‘doody’ and pick up after our dogs.”

Dog guardians can post a photo of themselves picking up dog waste with the hashtag #notapoopetrator to earn a chance to win an exclusive tour of the City Hall dome.
