(BANT) – A close encounter of the shark kind for a woman sailing with a friend off the coast of Santa Cruz a few days ago.

YouTube user Bonnie Brown posted this video of a great white shark swimming up to her camera a few seconds after she plunged it underwater. She says the shark was in a group of great whites in the waters off New Brighton State Beach back on July 12th. Here is her description of events:

“A peaceful encounter with an extraordinary animal. I was on a 22ft boat with my friend Eric Mailander, an avid wildlife photographer. We had spotted at least 9 white sharks that day, in an area where it is not uncommon to see that many individuals. Some of the sharks were curious and would approach my GoPro when I put it in the water! These sharks may have a menacing grin, but they don’t deserve their bad reputation – they were actually quite tranquil and calm throughout the day. I lucked out to have this curious creature give me such a great close-up.”

And cue the Jaws music.
