San Leandro Residents Asked to Shelter-in-Place During Two-Alarm Fire
(BANT) – Fire officials have issued a shelter-in-place advisory for residents in a San Leandro neighborhood near the Oakland International Airport, due to a two-alarm fire burning at a nearby metal salvage yard.
The fire was reported at 4:29 p.m. at Alco Iron and Metal Company, located near Doolittle Drive and Davis Street, according to Alameda County Fire Department Battalion Chief Stephanie Radecke.
Fire officials are asking residents west of Interstate Highway 880 between Davis Street and Fairway Drive to remain indoors and to close all windows. Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
The blaze is causing heaving smoke the area.
Fire officials are using a drone to check for hotspots, Radecke said.
