grenade

Roadside work crews working in an unincorporated area of Benicia on Saturday found a hand grenade, sheriff’s officials said.

According to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, crews were working in the area of Interstate Highway 680 and Parish Road in unincorporated Benicia when they found the grenade.

Deputies were called to the scene and worked with explosive specialists from Travis Air Force Base to determine the explosive was an inert training grenade. Sheriff’s officials do not know where the grenade came from or how long it was at the location.

The grenade was delivered to the Explosive Ordinance Specialists team at the Travis Air Force Base for proper disposal.

Sheriff’s officials urge anyone who finds a grenade to not touch it, leave the area and call 911.
