Petaluma Street Racing Suspect Dies During Police Pursuit
(BANT) – Police say a Petaluma man who may have been involved in some motorcycle street racing Sunday evening died after crashing while being chased by a police officer.
It happened near Adobe Creek Drive and South Ely Boulevard at 5:15 p.m. after an officer responded to reports of two motorcycles speeding up and down the streets.
The officer arrived to find the two motorcycle riders near South Ely Boulevard and Frates Road, but both of them sped off as the officer approached.
A chase ensued and one of the motorcyclists lost control of his bike and crashed during the pursuit. The officer immediately began giving the injured man first aid until an ambulance got there.
The second motorcyclist drove back to the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The motorist that crashed suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family has been notified.
The California Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation into the crash.
