(BayAreaNewsTalk.com) – A residential structure fire in a vacant home killed a man early
this morning in Oakley, according to police.

The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Star
Street, Sgt. Robert Roberts said.

The house appeared to be occupied by two homeless individuals. A
man thought to be roughly 50 years old was transported to a hospital and
pronounced dead.

“Sadly, it was really the first cold night of the year,” Roberts
said. “From what I see right now it appears to be a horrible accident.”

The fatal fire remains under investigation, however.

The name of the decedent was not immediately available.
