(BANT) – Napa Police say two of their officers fatally shot a man Monday evening who was reportedly armed with a knife and acting “crazy”.

At about 6:21 p.m., officers responded to numerous calls regarding a man who had a knife walking in front of the Home Depot store at 225 Soscol Ave.

Callers described the man as acting “high” or “crazy”. When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect crossed Kansas Avenue, heading north. After making contact with him, police say the incident somehow escalated and the two officers fired their service weapons at the man, killing him.

The Napa County Sheriff Office is investigating the incident. Investigators learned that before the officers arrived, the man had allegedly been attacking people and motorists with the knife.

The two officers involved will be placed on administrative leave. Their names will be released later this week. The identity of the man who was killed has not been released.

Anyone who may have seen what happened is asked to contact the Napa County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at (707) 253-4591.
