(BANT) – A house fire this morning in Moraga injured a firefighter, displaced a family of four and caused about $500,000 in damage to a home and the family’s belongings, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 7:57 a.m. at 9 Corte Amigos near the Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area.

The family was sleeping when a smoke alarm woke them, Fire Chief Stephen Healy said.

“The smoke detector saved them,” he said.

Firefighters put out the fire in about 10 to 15 minutes and contained the flames to a front office and family room.

But smoke and soot damaged the entire interior of the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it’s not suspicious, according to Healy.

The injured firefighter suffered only a minor injury.
