A man was shot in the leg during a confrontation between two groups outside of the Sunvalley Mall in Concord on Tuesday night, a police spokeswoman said.

The shooting was reported shortly after 9 p.m. after a group of five people had exited the Round 1 arcade and bowling alley at the mall along Contra Costa Boulevard and were confronted by three men in the parking lot, Concord police Cpl. Summer Galer said.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects took out a gun and opened fire, hitting one of the victims. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening, Galer said.

The suspects fled and remain at large this morning. They were described as men in their 30s but detailed descriptions of them weren’t immediately available.

Galer said investigators are trying to figure out what led to the shooting and are working to get surveillance footage from the mall.
