Man Shot And Killed After Parents Call Police Over Erratic Behavior
(BANT) – Santa Clara Police say a man in his mid 20s died Thursday evening when an officer shot him during a confrontation, after the man’s parents called them because he was behaving erratically.
It happened around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Monroe Street. Capt. Wahid Kazem says officers arrived, found the man and at first tried to subdue him with a Taser.
After that didn’t work, Capt. Kazem says the situation escalated and the officer was forced to shoot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured during the incident.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave. The Santa Clara Police Department will conduct an investigation into the fatal shooting, as will the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
The identity of the victim, as well as the officer involved, has not been released.
