(BANT) – A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train east of Vacaville late this morning, a fire chief said.

The man was struck in the middle of the tracks and was pronounced dead at the scene, Vacaville Fire Protection District Chief Doug Rogers said.

The train was traveling about 70 mph, Rogers said.

The incident near reported at Hawkins and Byrnes roads a half-mile north of Elmira Road around 11:45 a.m., Rogers said.

Amtrak officials said on Twitter that its Capitol Corridor train #528 was delayed between Suisun City and Davis because of a trespassing incident.
