Fremont Carjacking Suspect Arrested in Illinois
A man who allegedly carjacked a vehicle in Fremont last week was located and arrested Friday in Illinois, and is currently awaiting extradition back to California, police said.
According to Fremont police, on June 18 a suspect tried to carjack a victim’s vehicle at a 76 gas station at the intersection of Auto Mall Expressway and Osgood Road. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled the scene in a black BMW.
The next day, officers responded to multiple reports of a carjacking at the Valero gas station at the corner of Fremont Boulevard and Mowry Avenue.
The suspect allegedly tried to carjack a victim, but was unsuccessful. He then found a second victim, carjacked their vehicle and fled the scene, police said.
Officers searched the area and located the BMW parked near Mowry Avenue and Argonaut Way. With help from witnesses and victims, police identified the BMW’s driver as the carjacking suspect.
Police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Donis Rivas of Fremont. Police searched for the suspect in Fremont, Newark, Hayward and San Leandro, but later tracked him to Addison,
Illinois, police said.
Fremont police then coordinated with the Addison Police Department to locate Rivas.
On Friday, Addison police located Rivas, who allegedly lied about his identity. Rivas was arrested by Addison police and is currently awaiting extradition back to California, police said.
Rivas provided the location of the carjacked vehicle, which was recovered by Fremont police.
