(BANT) – Crews from several fire agencies were able to rescue a horse that had gotten stuck in a muddy mess near Felton Tuesday afternoon.

It happened along Woodcutter’s Trail in Wilder Ranch. Crews from Cal Fire, Felton Fire and Santa Cruz County fire all responded and found the horse soggy and exhausted after struggling for over an hour to get free.

Officials say the horse was in soft, wet sand up to its chest. The crews were able to divert water from the sand, allowing the horse to free itself and walk out on its own. The horse was not hurt.
