Fairfield police arrested a 16-year-old boy for possession of a replica firearm Monday night.

A citizen informed police around 8:45 p.m. that the teen inserted a magazine into the handgun before putting the gun in his waistband, police said.

The citizen’s family member followed the teen and provided more information to a police dispatcher while officers were responding.

The teen and his friend were seen entering a business in the 2500 block of North Texas Street and they were detained when they left the business, police said.

The teen had a black plastic BB gun with a magazine that contained several BBs, police said. The boy was arrested and cited for misdemeanor possession of a replica firearm with the orange tip safety feature removed.

The teen was released to his mother.
