(BANT) – A 55-year-old Concord man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say two puppies he left unattended
inside a hot car last week died.

On May 17th, witnesses flagged down an officer along Clayton Road around 5 p.m. and told him they’d found a number of dogs left unattended in a vehicle. A total of nine puppies and their mother were in the vehicle and all the animals appeared to be in distress.

Police took the animals to Sage Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Care, but two of the puppies died. All of the animals were turned over to animal services.

Clifford Gough, of Concord, was identified as the dogs’ caretaker and arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and animal endangerment.

You’re a dumbass for leaving those poor little babie. How sad to hear such horrible news. This person Clifford should be treated with the worst punishment given. Thank God the other animals were saved.

It is sad that this happened. However, to sit in judgment and vilify this individual is not helpful. Last year I left my dog in the car without opening the windows. I was shopping at Trader Joes & an announcement over the loudspeaker started to describe my vehicle. I immediately ran out of the store to my car to be confronted by an extremely angry man. He was right to be angry and I thanked him for calling attention to this.
