Body Found Under Oakland Highway Investigated As Possible Suicide
(BANT) – A fatality discovered early this morning underneath a highway connector ramp in West Oakland is being investigated as a possible suicide, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Just before 3:30 a.m., CHP dispatchers got a call regarding a vehicle abandoned on the transition ramp from eastbound Interstate Highway 580 to eastbound state Highway 24.
The vehicle, a black Honda Civic, was stopped in the slow lane with no driver inside or nearby.
Then a man’s body was located underneath the transition ramp at the intersection of 35th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to Officer Sean Wilkenfeld.
“It’s high enough to be fatal if someone jumped,” Wilkenfeld said.
The death does not appear to be related to any traffic collision, according to Wilkenfeld. Investigators took the vehicle to go through it for evidence, such as a possible note.
Further details were not immediately available.
