(BANT) – Anitoch Police say one of their officers shot an armed 56-year-old man early this morning after responding to a domestic violence call.

The call came in just after 2:30 a.m for an incident in the 900 block of West Eighth Street. Responding officers were confronted at the scene by an Antioch resident who was allegedly armed with a gun.

The officers fired shots at the man but could not say at this point whether the man also fired his gun.

The man was wounded and taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery. He was last reported in stable condition. None of the officers suffered injuries.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office and Antioch Police are investigating the incident.
