A 77-year-old woman who pulled a gun on a family member during a dispute was taken into protective custody and was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation Tuesday afternoon, according to San Mateo police.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Maxine Avenue at 4:53 p.m.

They got the rest of the family to safety, and then officers trained for crisis intervention contacted the woman.

They persuaded her to leave the residence without the gun.

Investigators determined the incident started with an argument that escalated. The woman’s name was not immediately released.
