( – A 20-year-old man was shot to death Sunday evening in Pittsburg, police said.

The Contra Costa County coroner’s office has identified the victim as Jose Escobedo-Ortega of Pittsburg, who was found by officers at about 7 p.m. in the eastern portion of Pittsburg’s City Park near East 17th Street
and Railroad Avenue.

According to police, officers tried to save Escobedo-Ortega’s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police don’t know whether the shooter and Escobedo-Ortega knew each other.

Detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses. Police are not releasing any other information about the case as of this morning.

Police said the killing is the city’s seventh homicide of 2017.
